What’s better than a makeup brand who’s products are excellent quality and are really reasonable? A make up brand who’s products are excellent quality, really reasonable and cruelty free!! If all of the above appeals to you then you need to take a look at Wet n Wild. A long time favourite of mine, this brands delivers beautiful, well priced products season after season. Here are some of my previous favourites.
Back in August I was kindly invited to Dublin to celebrate the launch of Wet n Wild’s Autumn 2018 collection. As always it did not disappoint. Wet n Wild is one of those brands that when you first try it, it’s difficult to get over the quality because of the price point. Do you know what I mean? Like who expects a €2.95 lipstick to be one of the best quality lipsticks you’ve ever tried?
Anyway back to the launch. It took place in the most insane location called The Baths in Clontarf. I can safely say that I have never been to a restaurant that has it’s own swimming baths out front!! It was truly amazing and the perfect setting to learn more about the new Autumn 2018 collection. Because there are a number of new additions, I think it’s probably best if I tell you a little bit about some of them individually.
So here are some of the new additions
Photo Focus Natural Finish Setting Spray €5.95
This setting spray comes in both a matte and a natural finish, I got to try the natural finish one. They say it ensures your make up stays put from day to night and that it gives the skin a hydrated, dewy look. I say that yes it did help to keep the make up in place on my dry skin for the day. I didn’t, however, notice any dewy finish but it definitely didn’t mattify either which is what I wanted.
There were two main things I didn’t like about this spray. Firstly the smell is strong, it smells like spraying hair spray on to your face. Unfortunately this is a comment issue with setting sprays I find. Secondly, every time I sprayed it in on my face it made my mascara run. So this is more of a miss than a hit for me I’m afraid.
Photo Focus Foundation €6.95
This isn’t a new product from Wet n Wild. The Photo Focus foundation is out over a year but they have added a new shade, Desert Beige. I cannot say enough about this foundation, it truly is wonderful. The only downside is right now I have four different shades of it and none of them match my skin tone. It’s not a big deal because I mix them to create the right colour but it makes it awkward if you’re choosing shades online.
Suitable for more of a combination skin type because it is oil free, Photo Focus provides excellent coverage. It also creates a beautiful finish, the “soft focus” effect is very flattering. And the no-flashback technology helps to eliminate photo flashback. So in the era of the selfie, this is good news!!
Retractable Brow Pencil €2.95
I love products like these because it means that you no longer have to pay top dollar to get a decent brow pencil. The Retractable Brow Pencil is double sided, with a spoolie on one side and an angled brow pencil on the other. I trialed the shade Medium Brown but there are two more to choose from. Use the triangular tip to create precise finish which lasts well. Once it’s applied it doesn’t budge to be fair. Excellent value for money.
Mega Slim Skinny Mascara €4.95
Apparently people use separate mascaras for their bottom lashes these days, who knew? The Wet n Wild Slim Skinny Mascara has a super slim brush which picks up even the shortest of lower lashes and coats them with colour. On the bright side, it definitely works. I found that my lashes were more defined and separated looking after a few coats. Do you have time to use two separate mascaras every day? If so, then this one is excellently priced.
Color Icon Eyeshadow Quads/10 Pan palettes €3.95/€8.25
I’m going to combine these two as they share the same qualities but are just different sizes. In the each quad there is a shade for the browbone, a transition shade, a shade for the eyelid and the crease. Within the palettes there’s a mixture of mattes and shimmer finishes. The Eyeshadow Quads are available in six different shades.
The 10 pan palette is the same idea but you get more shades the choose from. All of the shadows are long wearing and fabulously pigmented. They apply and blend really easily and are great quality, especially considering the price. The 10 pan palettes come in three different shades.
MegaGlo Hello Halo Liquid Highlighters €5.95
2018 is most certainly the year of the liquid highlighter, they are everywhere!! The original Megaglo Highlighting Powders are an absolute thing of beauty so I had high hopes for the liquid version. It did not disappoint. They come in four different shades, I got to use the shade “Halo Gorgeous” which is the most delicate rosey pink shade. It’s absolutely the one I would have picked for myself, perfect for a paler skin tone.
It’s a buildable product so don’t worry, you won’t look like a disco ball!! It can be used on it’s own, mixed with your foundation or popped onto a specific area you want to brighten. These cannot be faulted. They are liquid perfection. If you’re a fan of highlighters and you see these, pick them up. You honestly won’t regret it.
So one of the most frequent questions that I get with regards to Wet n Wild is where is it stocked? The simple answer is, not in enough places!! I know that some Penneys and selected pharmacies throughout Ireland have Wet n Wild stands but I don’t have a comprehensive list that I can share with you.
The only place I can direct you to is Beauty Bay who have recently become Wet n Wild stockists. If you know of any locations around the country please post them below as I’m sure it will help others.
