I get asked about the Second Skin foundation quite a lot on my Instagram Stories so I thought it was worthwhile writing a little blog post on it. First off, Second Skin foundation comes in nine shades and two different finishes. I’ve only experienced the Dewy finish so that’s mainly what I will be talking about but just to say it’s available in a Matte finish as well.
Second Skin foundation is a 100% mineral liquid foundation with medium, buildable coverage. The coverage really impressed me. It was quite a bit better than I was expecting, heavier than my beloved IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream I really like the finish of it too, it leaves the skin looking really luminous. This is the formula for you if your skin is more Dry or Dehydrated. It feels quite weightless on as well. In fact you feel like you’re not wearing anything which makes it the perfect foundation for everyday wear.
It also has an SPF50 UVA & UVB and is packed full of Hyualuronic Acid to help moisturise whilst covering. I chose the shade Fair Plus and for the most part I’m happy with it. It’s almost the exact same colour as my natural skin tone so I do add warmth into it with blush and bronzer. If I was choosing again I might try the shade “Light” instead to see how I get on with it. The only negative I have with this product is I feel you get through the tube quickly enough. Maybe I was being a bit heavy handed with it but it seemed to be quarter empty before I knew it. But to be fair, I have the exact same issue with the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and this foundation is €12 cheaper.
Second Skin foundation is priced at €27 for 32ml.
Aimee normally runs Shade Matching events all around the country but right now due to Covid-19 that’s not possible. I am going to leave a link here to a very helpful blog post I found on her website to help you Find Your Shade.
So this post is mostly about Second Skin foundation, I also wanted to speak a little bit about the new Beauty Base Pearl. One of the most popular posts I wrote last year was about the original Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Beauty Base. It’s a product I really enjoy especially during the Summer. The Pearl version of the product was launched earlier this year and it does not disappoint. In fact I would go so far as to say I prefer it to the original. I think it is magnificent on fair skin. There is a slightly more pinkish tone to this one which I find so flattering.
It can be worn on bare skin, under foundation or it can be mixed with foundation to add luminosity. Beauty Base Pearl also has an SPF30 with UVA and UVB protection, and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate the skin. This primer is most suitable for dry or dehydrated skin in my opinion. Because of the luminosity it adds to your base, I don’t see an oilier skin type getting on as well with it. I find it great for evening out skin tone. It helped to reduce the appearance of redness in my skin and blurred down the lines on my forehead successfully enough.
The 50ml tube is priced at €24.95 which I think is good value for money as you don’t need to use very much to get the desired effect.
Sculpted by Aimee Connolly products can be bought directly from her website and from selected pharmacies nationwide.
