Can you believe it’s September already? This summer has really been a blink and you miss it kinda one but I’m not going to complain because Autumn is my most favourite season of all. Scarves, woolly jumpers and boots..absolute bliss and September is one step closer to my birthday (which I’m actually like a big baby over still…even though I’m old!!)
This summer I got to use some gorgeous beauty products but I wanted to share with you, the ones I kept finding myself going back to over and over again, so here’s a blog post about my favourite beauty products of the summer.
Benefit Hoola Lite
When I heard this product was coming I instantly knew it was going to be a good one for me. The original Hoola is such a gorgeous bronzer (and transition shade on the eyes BTW!!) but whatever way I tried to dress it up, it’s too dark for me. A good deal paler than the original and so incredibly perfect for us paler skinned beauties, Hoola Lite lived up to every single expectation I had. I find it to be the most perfect contour shade on my skin, it warms it up beautifully without making my skin look ashy. It also blends like a dream and it’s matte so gives a really pretty natural finish. Honestly I love it, it’s one of the best beauty products I’ve bought this year, an instant favourite. It’s priced at €34 for 8g and I bought mine from Cloud 10 Beauty
NYX Professional Makeup Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette
Phew..that’s quite the mouthful!! When I saw this palette in Boots it was honestly love at first sight. NYX Professional Makeup are such a fantastic brand for great quality affordable fun makeup and I think this is such a versatile product. In it you get eight highly pigmented blushers, seven of which are matte but the shade on the top left hand side has the prettiest little glow to it its perfect to layer over the others to lift them too. I have used this palette pretty much every day since I bought it, including using some of the shades on my eyes which has worked out perfectly as they have enough pigment. My personal favourite shade is the beautiful coral/peachy one on the bottom left, it’s been the most gorgeous blush for the summer. I would highly recommend this palette for professionals and makeup junkies alike, you won’t regret it. Its priced at €22 and I bought mine in Boots
SunKiss Instant Self Tanning Mousse
Well now this was quite the find. I had this here because I had won a hamper of it back in February at an event I was at and just never got around to using it until a few months ago. Now I’m going to say I’m not a big fake tanner, I’m very lazy and hanging around waiting for it to dry and having to sleep with myself smelling of burnt biscuits does not appeal to me in the slightest but for some reason one night I decided to give this one a try. The first thing I noticed when I tried it was how easily it blended into my skin, it has a tint too when you’re applying it which is a must for me with tan, otherwise who knows where it would end up!!
Secondly it dries relatively quickly so no hanging around in a John Wayne-esque pose waiting for it to dry. Another massive thumbs up from me is the lack of smell from it while it’s developing. I’m not going to say there’s no smell because I still got a little one but unlike other tans I’ve tried, the smell completely disappears after your shower. The best part though is the colour, it is beyond stunning, it doesn’t look like tan, you just look like you have a healthy glow. I love it, it applies flawlessly especially around your fingers and it wears off really nicely too. Genuinely I can’t think of one negative thing to say about it. It makes me want to tan way more regularly now because it’s so much easier and incredibly it’s only €12.50. I didn’t buy mine as I said but definitely keep your eyes peeled for it the next time you’re in your local pharmacy. Definitely my new favourite tan!!
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Loose Powder
This was my very first Makeup Forever product, I got it as part of a Beauty Subscription box from Love Me Beauty, which I wrote about here and boy am I so glad I picked it. I’m a woman of a certain age so finding a fixing powder that doesn’t set up camp in every line and crevice I have is like a small miracle. This is by far the most finely milled powder I’ve ever used so therefore you barely feel it on your skin after you apply it. This by no means affects the performance of the powder, it mattifies the skin perfectly leaving it looking fresh and luminous. The pot that I got in the subscription box is only little but I’ve barely made my way through it all summer so I will definitely be investing in the full size product when the time comes as it’s 100% worth it. I’m also beyond excited that we now have our very own Make Up For Ever counter in Debenhams in Cork…I fear this is going to be very dangerous for my bank balance. If you’re interested in buying this powder you’ll find it here
Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer
Every single bit of hype you have heard about this product is true. This is my very favourite concealer EVER!! If I was to nit pick, the only negative I could come up with is the lack of shade choice. I use it in the shade Light and technically it could do with being a bit paler on me but I style it out. I adore the consistency of it though, again for me it’s all about it not creasing under my eyes and it doesn’t..happy days. It’s incredible value for money at €11.99 and if you buy it in Boots which I normally do there’s usually some kind of offer on it, whether it’s 3 for 2 or Buy One Get One Half Price, making it even more affordable again. If you haven’t tried it before now you need to sort that out, you won’t regret it. I usually apply it in a V shape under my eye and down the bridge of my nose and blend it in with a Real Techniques sponge and I find it just doesn’t move. One of my favourite beauty products ever, I would never have a make up bag without it again.
Special shout out as well to that Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge pictured above too. I have tried lots of beauty blenders, sponges etc but non of them come close to this one. It’s a dream to work with and another thing I wouldn’t be without in my make up bag!!
So that’s it, the foundations of my go-to face all summer. What do you think? Do you have any of these product already? Any of them on your wish list? Let me know, I love talking all things beauty.
