Jean-Michel Basquiat Collaboration with Urban Decay

Firstly I’m going to say that anybody who knows me knows of my unwavering love for Urban Decay, it has always been there but in the last two years it’s gone completely through the roof due to epic launch after epic launch of new products. Even with that said their most recent collaboration even had me on the edge of my seat. We were given teasers of the collaboration that was coming with New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat back in April and instantly I knew this collab was going to be right up my alley!!

Launched in Irish stores on the 11th of May, the UDXBasquiat collaboration did not disappoint in any way. Firstly I think I need to talk about the packaging. Each piece was inspired by iconic pieces of Basquiat artwork, each palette is wrapped in canvas and has a little cutout on the back so they can be hung on the wall like little pieces of artwork. Personally I thought that was a fantastic touch, it makes you feel like you’re part of something very special.

As much as I would have loved to purchase every single piece of the collection unfortunately I had to restrain myself!! In this post I’m going to concentrate on the pieces I did buy.

First up is the Gold Griot  palette. I was so excited for this collection to launch that I went to Debenhams when it opened on the 11th and in the lead up to that day I kept repeating to myself like a mantra….You do not need another eye shadow palette….turns out I was wrong, the minute I saw this one, I knew it had to be mine. Stunning doesn’t even begin to cover it, I’m a sucker for a warm colour palette and have many (some would say, way too many!!) but the edition of a beautiful slate grey shade BK and a truly unique matte navy blue Pseudonym really sealed the deal for me, not to mention Crown, that beautiful metallic Gold. Priced at €42 for 8 eye shadows I am personally really pleased my purchase. I think the quality of Urban Decay shadows is hard to beat and this palette has the ability to appeal to the masses whilst still giving enough edginess to keep us more adventurous eye shadow wearers happy too.

Next up is the 24/7 Glide on eye pencil in Anatomy. Now I’m not going to lie, I didn’t realise how much I wanted this pencil until I wasn’t able to get one (FOMO works a treat on me!!) There was a shortage of stock in the Mahon Point branch the day it was launched so it wasn’t until a week later that I was able to pick one up and by then I was at fever pitch with excitement. Although it might seem like a really unusual choice of eye pencil colour, it is something that I think is perfect for anyone who A- has blue eyes and B- loves red and copper toned palettes. I’ve used it every day that I’ve worn make up since I bought it and I’m so happy with it, it’s an ideal accompaniment for the Gold Griot palette too by the way!

Last but definitely not least, I bought a lipstick but I can imagine you already knew that one was coming!!  Again the packaging on these lipsticks is sublime, wrapped up in artwork, they’re just so beautiful to look at on the outside before you even concentrate on the shades. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I adore Urban Decay Vice lipsticks, if you haven’t here are my thoughts on them from when they launched last year Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks. This collection has three shades in total but unfortunately I only bought one (I’m so sensible!) I decided to go for Epigram, a Cream Finish lipstick in such a unique shade, it’s almost copper, personally I don’t have anything else quite like it, which is really saying something and again it’s such a perfect accompaniment  for the Gold Griot palette. Each lipstick is priced at €20.

This collection is limited edition so if you see anything of interest here I’d pop to your local Debenhams sooner rather than later to be sure you’re not disappointed. Do you have any pieces or want any pieces from the UDXBasquiat collection, what are your thoughts?
