Favourite Skincare finds of 2018

Happy New Year to you all.  I’m going to start off this year’s round of blog posts with some of my favourite skincare finds of 2018. I’m so passionate about good skincare. You only get one face so I believe you should use the best products you can afford on it. Here are some of my favourite high end and high street picks.

The very beautiful Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

First up I’m going to talk about the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. I have a small bit of a cleanser obsession so this was always on my list of ones to try. It has gained cult status within the industry as being one of the best cleansers currently on the market. I was so thrilled when I was sent some to try by the brand.

Normally when it comes to skincare, I reserve judgement until I’ve used a product a number of times before I give it a thumbs up (or down as the case may be). This Cleansing Balm had me hooked from my very first use. It is excellent at removing makeup, even Waterproof mascara. It is nourishing and soothing and leaves your skin visibly plumped after use. The Cleansing Balm is infused with Orange, Neroli, Jasmine and Rose essential oils which makes it an absolute treat for the senses.

How to use:- Take a small amount of the Balm and warm it up in the palm of your hands. Then apply it to the face and neck area massaging it thoroughly into the skin. Take the Professional Cleansing Cloth that comes in the box and rinse it under warm water. Use the cloth to remove any dirt or make up on the skin. The Balm can also be used as a Hydrating Mask if left on clean skin for ten minutes.

Although this is a pricey product I think it’s such a wonderful product if your budget allows. One of my favourite Irish owned websites Cloud 10 Beauty stock it here.

My favourite piece so far from the Alex Steinherr Skincare collection

Just to balance things out somewhat, my next pick is a fantastic budget product. It’s the Alex Steinherr Sleep Spa, Sleeping Face Mask. This is a part of the 20 piece skincare collection Alex launched with Penneys back in October 2018. This collection obviously was a huge hit firstly, due to the price point but also because there’s not much Alex doesn’t know about great skincare. So if you were a bit iffy about trying such a budget product on your visage then let me talk you through this one!!

I’ve tried a few bits from Alex’s range so far and the Sleeping Face Mask remains my favourite. Overnight Masks are my go to come Winter time but the texture of some can be very heavy. This one has a gel like lightweight texture that doesn’t sit on the surface of the face. The magic ingredients in this one are Willowherb and Chamomile. These promise to “help plump, smooth and restore skin while you sleep”. And incredibly they do!!

How to use:- Cleanse and tone as normal and apply a thin layer of the mask all over the face and fall asleep!! Simples!!

Waking up after using this product the night before, your skin is noticeably plumper and extra glowy. Skincare doesn’t always have to cost an arm and a leg to be a good addition to your regime. Alex herself knows great skincare. She has worked with some of the leading skincare brands of our time. She’s not trying to replace your €80 pot of cream with a €5 one. She’s just trying to open our minds by adding variety to our skincare favourites. My only regret is not buying the Overnight Eye Mask too. The next time it’s back in stock it will definitely be going in my basket!!

This isn’t a full size Gentle Refiner, the product you buy is 50ml

Moving on to exfoliation and my current favourite exfoliator, Clarins Gentle Refiner. Because I have Roseacea, exfoliators really used to scare me. It is very important to not antagonise already aggravated skin so for a long time I would avoid them completely. The Gentle Refiner exfoliating cream from Clarins is just that, gentle!! I use this one once/twice a week depending on how my skin is feeling.

How to use:- Apply it to damp skin. Using gentle pressure move the product around in a circular motion over your face for a few minutes. Remove using a damp cloth, making sure that all of the product is fully removed. Finish off with your serum and moisturiser/night cream.

Exfoliation is a key part of your skincare regime. It helps your skincare to function more effectively. Helping other products such as serums and moisturisers to be absorbed into the skin more efficiently.  If exfoliation isn’t part of your current regime and you find your makeup isn’t sitting well on your face then it’s something you need to consider.

irish beauty blog, beauty blog, korean skincare, sheet mask

I’ve had to take this image from the Seoulista website as I’ve used my last Super Hydration mask. I really hope you don’t mind guys.

Next up is one of my favourite sheet masks EVER!! The Seoulista Super Hydration Instant Facial. Oh my days, these absolutely rock!! I’ve spoken about this brand before when I wrote about their pedicure masks last Summer here. But I can’t believe I haven’t written about their face masks before now.

My favourite is the Super Hydration one but they also come in Charcoal Detox, Correct and Calm and Brightening Instant. So there’s something for every skincare concern out there. They are priced at €8.99 each but they are the most serum saturated sheet mask I have ever used. If only there was a way to get it back into the packet afterwards you could nearly use it twice it’s so full of serum.

How to use:- Take the backing off on both sides of the sheet mask and apply it onto the face. If you have left over serum apply this down your neck as well. Leave on for 20/25 minutes and just rub the excess serum into the skin et voila!!

The Super Hydration sheet mask is packed full of hyaluronic acid and is perfect for dry or dehydrated skin. Your skin just feels so plump and glowy after using this mask.

So those are some of the best skincare products that I have found in 2018. Have you used any of them? What are your top skincare finds over the last 12 months? Let me know your thoughts below gang.

Some of the products mentioned here were sent to me to try. Some I bought myself, it doesnt affect my opinion either way. The links featured in this post are non affiliate links

I was very lucky to receive the EH balm as a present ( after a few hints were dropped ) I also have the sleep mask , I’ve only used it once and forgot about it, must do that tonight. I’m in love with anything Clarins, which serum would you recommend for sensitive skin?

I really want to try the Sleep Mask too. All of Clarins skincare is suitable for sensitive skin as it’s plant based. Double Serum is one of my favourite skincare products ever. It is so beautiful, I wouldn’t be without it
